CADWYN CLWYD INFORMATION KIOSKS

Project Brief.

Cadwyn Clwyd is a Rural Development Agency covering Denbighshire & Flintshire. The development of 2 unique digital information kiosks using OpusTouch provided an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how the Agency encourages grass-root participation and innovation in partnership to deliver stimulus in the local economy. WPP partners Artychoke, Cobalt Techno and Blue Fox Technology used its OpusTouch app for iPad as the basis for the project.

Cadwyn Clwyd had an idea. Having seen our work on the Green Links project the Agency knew of 2 unique locations that would benefit from having a touch screen kiosk on site and of how the local economy could benefit from their presence.

The first location is Moel Famau car park, high up in the Clwydian range and the second is the Corwen Station temporary platform which forms part of the recent extension to the Llangollen Railway. On paper  the 2 locations seem to have little in common. What links them is that each location generates a uniquely captive audience. For example, around 300,000 people per year visit the Moel Famau car park. Moel Famau is a natural tourist crossroads, the highest point at the heart of the Clwydian range of hills, beloved by both walkers and cyclists, and in close proximity to The Jubilee Tower, Loggerheads Country Park and Offa’s Dyke with defined routes to all.

The Corwen temporary platform….

Cadwyn Clwyd’s budget was tight. We were able to offer an off-the-peg solution via our OpusTouch app software. OpusTouch is a touch screen solution for iPads and incorporates the use of an app developed by us in iOS. The app’s features and functions are semi-automatically activated by populating the app and its database with content such as interactive mapping, text, images, video and audio. We outline dto Cadwyn Clwyd what we needed and they sourced the content for us to optimise for the app. A new design to corporate guidelines was created along with a new set of interactive maps that highlighted the unique points of interest and routes to them from each kiosk location.

Key project features

  • off-the-shelf solution to meet budget constraints
  • OpusTouch provides a turn-key touch screen solution for digital information points including both hardware and software components
  • digital information points and kiosks are ideal for targeting large footprint, captive audiences with content and ideas that encourage them to spend more time and money in the local area
  • use of QR codes means digital content can be transferred from touch screen to visitor’s mobile device
